A Rich History: From Colonial Era to Academic Retreat; Originally known as Wright’s Bungalow, this elegant stone residence was built in 1939 by Colonel Thomas Yates Wright, a prominent tea planter who owned the Mahakande Estate. With its British colonial architecture and breathtaking surroundings, the bungalow reflects a bygone era of luxury and tradition.
Following Sri Lanka’s independence, the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya acquired the property, transforming it into a residence for married academics. Today, it serves as one of the three official guest houses managed by the University of Peradeniya, offering accommodations for visiting scholars and academics.
