Bhadravathi Temple – A Hidden Hilltop Stupa Near Galaha
Perched atop a granite hill along Mulgama Road (Delpitiya Road) between Galaha and Pupuressa, Bhadravathi Temple is one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic stupas, though rarely mentioned in travel guides. Just 35 minutes from Horizon View (17 km), this hidden gem offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding highlands, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and spiritual seekers alike.
A Stupa with Spectacular Views
The white stupa, set against the dark granite rock, stands as a striking landmark visible from afar. While part of the central highlands, the hill of Bhadravathi is uniquely isolated, located between the Hanthana Mountain Range to the north and the Kondagala-Chariot Path-Piduratalagala Mountain Chain to the south. Below, the valley town of Galaha sits at the heart of this scenic region, where traditional step cultivation of paddy has flourished for centuries. Due to reforestation efforts, the area now has more pine forests than many other montane regions in Sri Lanka.
